How It Works

The system to manage installed Prepaid Electricity Meters is really simple. Once installed, meters are registered to our prepaid utilities management system. Tenants then deposit funds into the bank account of the owner or property manager who then credits the funds to the tenants Prepaid Electricity Meter. Once this is done tenants simply send an SMS with their meter number, amount of electricity they want and their unique PIN code to 35446 and receive a 20-digit credit token number. The 20-diget number is then input into the Prepaid Electricity Meter via the key pad and the meter will starts to dispense electricity up to the value of the credit token.


There are no recharge cards associated with our meters, because recharge cards tend to get lost and damaged. Recharge cards carry a replacement cost and can't be credited form anywhere. With our system anybody with a cellphone can use our system to obtain electricity any time of the day or night.

With our system every property manager, owner can send an FAX to E-METERS to upload electricity credit onto there meters, only after the tenant has paid them for electricity..The tenants then send an SMS to obtain the credit on our system. The tenant will receive a return SMS with a 20-diget code that needs to be inserted into the meter for it to start dispensing electricity. This way we make it easier for owners/landlords, property managers to load electricity onto our system for there tenants.

Once a meter is installed in your property and registered on your system, your tenant can use our website to get all the relevant information needed to use the prepaid meter.

Installation of the basic Prepaid Electricity Meter can be a DIY job but it is recommended that all electrical meters are installed by a qualified electrician. Once installed letting agents, landlords and property management can take over the management of their Prepaid Electricity Meters.

The diagram explains how easy our system is.

The Tenant pays the landlord/owner for electricity before usage (Redline from tenant to landlord is the flow of money). Then the landlord/owner has the money to pay the municipality for electricity before the month end(Redline from landlord/owner to municipality). The landlord/owner sends a fax/SMS to E-Meters with the amount of electricity they must credit on the system(blue line is the communication between landlord/owner and E-Meters). E-Meters than loads the amount the landlord/owner specified onto the system. The tenant can then send an SMS any time of the day or night to obtain the credit that is on our system(blue line from Tenant to E-Meters and back). E-Meters don't receive any money from the tenant, we only charge the landlord/owner a R15-00 managing fee, witch the landlord/owner can then pass down to the tenant at the end of the month under utilities as a management fee.

How much does it cost?

E-Meters charge landlords/property owners a managing fee to load electricity credit onto our system for there tenants.The managing fee charged to landlord/property owners is a fixed rate every year.

- Included in the monthly managing fee is unlimited uploading of credit onto our system for your tenants per month.

- The management fee is R20-00 per month, per meter for residential property.

- The management fee for commercial property is R60-00 per month per meter.
